• Are there any side effects to Salt therapy?

Salt therapy is a drug free and natural therapy and has no known negative side effects. Some people may experience a mild salt taste or a mild skin irritation which will disappear after a few sessions. If skin irritation continues, frequency of sessions can be altered. Some people particularly those attending their initial sessions for respiratory conditions, may experience increased coughing and expelling of mucus. This is a natural part of the salt therapy process and will reduce with each session as the removal of the mucus deep within the lungs is removed.

  • Are the salt therapy rooms sterile and is there a chance of infections from others?

Dry salt aerosol is sprayed into the salt room at pre-defined concentrations. Salt by nature has antibacterial properties therefore reduces chance of infection. In addition, at Salt Serenity our salt rooms have a constant exchange of fresh air during a session, have an allowance of 8m³ personal space per person and are cleaned daily.

  • What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing is best for respiratory disorders. Those with skin discomforts should expose the affected area as much as possible. Private session(s) can be arranged upon request and availability. We do ask that where possible, people attending a salt therapy session refrain from wearing scented perfumes or cosmetic lotions or products as many people attending salt therapy are allergic to these scents.

  • Can children undertake halo or salt therapy?

Salt Therapy is totally safe and is recommended for children. Children generally respond to the therapy quickly and effectively. Salt Therapy is 100% drug free, non-invasive treatment with no side effects and at Salt Serenity we provide therapy for children from 6 months of age. At Salt Serenity, our specialised kids room has many toys, books, tv, etc., so to the kids it wont even feel like a therapy session. Please note that children up to the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Why are Children more prone to suffer from respiratory conditions?

Children’s natural defense mechanism of the respiratory system is not fully developed until around age 9. Until this age, large particles of pollution can penetrate and remain in the lungs as the cilia (tiny muscular projections of the cells that line the airways) cannot filter them out.

Children also take more breaths per minute than adults do and due to their height at a younger age, are also breathing in air lower to the ground. This mean they are breathing in more polluted air, more often and without a fully developed respiratory filtering system.

  • What does it feel like to have salt therapy?

Salt therapy is pain free, relaxing and serene experience. Some people may experience as slight taste of salt due to the salt content in the air that is breathed. For non-respiratory based therapy, people can wear surgical masks to reduce this taste if they wish to do so.

  • How safe is Salt Therapy?

Salt Therapy is completely natural and drug free and is safe for all ages. It can be used as a complimentary treatment along with prescribed medications or as a sole treatment.
Salt Serenity salt therapy does not provide any diagnosis, cure or prevention of any disease or conditions and does not recommend or suggest altering or stopping any prescribed medication by medical practitioners or specialised consultants unless the individual has been advised to do so by their medical practitioners or specialised consultants.

  • Why do the Salt Rooms make you feel relaxed and rejuvenated?

As the medical device grinds the pharmaceutical salt, it imparts a negative charge to the salt particles – Negative Ions. Negative ions are associated with improvements in mood and physical health. Much research has been done showing that negative ions assist in protecting the body from induced physical stress and also significantly improve all physiological states, particularly during rest.

  • What is Salt Therapy?

Salt Therapy involves sitting in a specially prepared room which simulates the micro-climate of an underground salt cave. One room is specifically for adults and the other for children. The medical device grinds pharmaceutical grade salt into fine particles of between 1 – 5 μm. This process imparts a negative charge to the salt particles (negative ions) which are released into the salt room as dry salt aerosol. As you sit and relax you breathe in the superfine particles allowing it to penetrate through the entire respiratory tract obtaining optimal benefits from the healing properties of salt.

  • How does Salt Therapy work?

The specialised medical device grinds pharmaceutical grade salt into fine particles of between 1 – 5 μm. Once it interacts with the lining of the bronchi and alveoli, it dissolves and attracts allergens and bacteria within your respiratory system, which are later either coughed up or leave the body via the blood stream. Eliminating allergens and bacteria also aids to eliminate the main cause of most inflammatory respiratory conditions (such as asthma and COPD). Salt therapy does this naturally and is 100% drug free.

  • What can I expect after a course of salt therapy?

After a course of salt therapy you will feel your respiratory system clean and breathing improved, therefore providing the opportunity to reduce the intake of medications such as steroids and inhalers as well as reducing the chance of an asthma attack. Depending on your condition ( if it’s a respiratory based condition), you will notice a reduction in mucus or phlegm production as the mucociliary system improves and associated symptoms of coughing, shortness of breath, inflammation and irritation of the airways all improve.
Those suffering dermatological conditions can expect a reduction in edema, redness and itching.

  • Salt is supposed to bad for you. Is this going to have an effect on my health?

Eating too much salt is bad for you however conditions such as high blood pressure are often attributed to too much salt in our diet but the reality is too much of the wrong type of salt is the problem. Most table salt has been over refined and has anti caking agents (E535 and E536) which are often problem causing.  At Salt Serenity, our salt therapy allows you to breathe in 100% drug free and chemical free dry salt aerosol ground from pharmaceutical grade salt. It has no additives or impurities and especially no anti-caking agents. The amount of salt entering your lungs in our salt rooms is very low  (room concentration is 1-10mg/m3), when compared to the average adult daily recommended intake of salt consumption of 6g.  As this amount of salt entering your lungs is so low there would be no detrimental effects only benefits as it kills bacteria and reduces inflammation in the respiratory area as well as assist with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
